Recuperating from the Holidays with Aromatherapy

During the holidays, did you overeat?  Did you eats lots of sweets or have that extra glass of champagne to bring in the New Year?  Did you throw caution to the wind and find rich foods irresistible?  After all, it’s only once a year, right?  But did that “once a year” extend from Halloween with your favorite Halloween candy that somehow found its place in your pantry into the week after New Year’s day?  Well, it’s time to treat your body to gentle recuperation from the festivities with aromatherapy.

There are a couple of paths to helping yourself out at this time:  1) go on a cleanse or 2) support the organs that were most impacted by the change in eating habits and late night revelry.  Or you can do both.  There are many herbal cleanses on the market that provide liver and intestinal detoxification.  There are excellent purifying herbal teas as well.  This is all great.  However, your liver, pancreas, stomach,  intestines and lymphatic system need support, either  in conjunction with or without herbal or tea detoxification, in order to get back on track quickly and smoothly.  What aromatherapy has to offer is assistance and support to these overworked , overloaded organs to improve proper function and assimilation of nutrients which could bring the added bonus of better energy.  Let’s take a look at some very useful essential oil blends.  Please refer to Dilutions and Measurements before using.  See Resources section for www.mynsp/carolquigless.com for more information regarding herbal cleanses and  www.carytownteas.com for cleansing and purifying teas.

STOMACH, INTESTINES, INDIGESTION.      If your digestion is still out of order, 2 essential oils are wonderful  to get back on track:  Lemon and Ginger.  Lemon is calming and ginger brings digestive fire.   Peppermint works well and feels good for nausea.  However, some research has shown that it may aggravate  acid reflux between it relaxes  esophageal sphincter muscle when ingested.  MEO has 2 formulas – one with peppermint and one without peppermint.   Digestion Aid contains Lemon, Ginger, Juniper, Patchouli, Tarragon and Caraway and is also excellent for the dreaded “stomach bug.”   Calm Stomach contains Peppermint, Lavender, Lemon, Roman Chamomile, Ginger and is a gentler formula, deemed safe after the first trimester of pregnancy. LIVER:  Both lemon and peppermint are helpful for a sluggish liver in overload.  MEO Liver Support blend  contains sweet marjoram,  lemon, and helichrysum to add additional power.  This blend is effective applied over the liver plus inhalation of the aroma works very well.
